Response to Proactive Measures Related to Federal Funding Changes in Ann Arbor (February 26, 2025)
Dear Colleagues,
A short time ago, President Ono announced to the Ann Arbor campus to buffer against negative, long-term impacts related to federal funding cuts.
UM-Ann Arbor received word from a federal agency instructing a stop work order on a multimillion-dollar project. In anticipation of possible similar actions, the Ann Arbor campus has implemented hiring reviews and is examining non-essential financial commitments and capital projects to protect university finances.
To date, we have not received notice regarding federal funding impacts to our campus. Late last evening, I met with members of my senior leadership team and we decided to not take any similar or alternative measures, at this time. Our team continues to monitor a very fluid situation in Washington, DC and will take appropriate action, if necessary.
